This electric guitar is a modern twist on the classic electric guitar. It’s design embraces the history of the instrument and the functional demands of the musician while shedding traditional styling in favor of modern influences. The body design combines elements from the world’s most beloved solid body guitars. At its heart this is a traditional arch top combined with a 50’s style slim body and broad face. The faceted design draws from contemporary influences in architecture, ceramics and industrial design, trading traditional rounded contours and seamless curves for subtle planes and straight lines. The stark white paint and black components provide a pop of contrast, but minimize visual complexity to emphasize the subtle planes on the face of the body that emerge and recede in the light. The final product is an electric guitar with a soft and luscious appearance paradoxical to its crisp geometry.

The UpCycled series was inspired by a desire to design in the face limitations. Working out of a small shop occupying the only bedroom in an apartment comes with challenges for a woodworker: tools, noise, dust and space to name a few. This series represents the result of working small, leveraging imperfection to create character, using materials in unconventional ways, and embracing a rustic sensibility to draw out the beauty in common objects and materials.
